About Me

Hi! I’m Alisha.

I’m a typical soccer mom.

(Okay, so my kids don’t actually play soccer. I’m using the term pretty loosely.)

I use the term soccer mom because I want you to realize that I am super ordinary. I want you to picture someone who cuts crust off peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and drives her kids around to their gazillion activities. And of course I drive a minivan even though when I was pregnant with my first I swore I never would.

I live in a typical Midwestern suburb. I’m not rich, famous or fancy. I don’t have military or law enforcement training. Prior to 2010 I had never shot a gun. Frankly I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to.

After I made the decision that concealed carry was something I wanted to do, I struggled figuring out how to make it work for me. I want to share my experiences with you to help make your journey easier.

I’m really down to earth and practical but also a big over-thinker. I’ve put a lot of thought into what works for me. You will find my tips and suggestions useful and realistic for the average woman.

I want to be the resource I wish I had had when I was a complete gun newbie navigating the male dominated gun world. It would have saved me time, money and frustration if I would have had an “ordinary” woman explain to me what works for her and why.

I don’t look like a gun girl.

Most people that pass me in public would never expect that I am carrying a concealed handgun.

I’m an NRA and USCCA Instructor.

After adopting a concealed carry lifestyle, I eventually decided to become an Instructor so I could help other women.

I remember how intimidating the gun world felt when I was a complete newbie. I love being a friendly female face that can welcome women into that world.

My husband started a firearms training company called Armed2Defend in 2010.

In 2013, after I had become more comfortable with the concealed carry lifestyle, I decided to become an instructor. I was a high school teacher by day. Teaching is in my blood so it felt like a natural next step.

Over time I accumulated more instructor credentials.

  • NRA Basic Pistol Instructor
  • NRA CCW Instructor
  • USCCA Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals Instructor
  • USCCA Women’s Handgun & Self-Defense Fundamentals Instructor
I also lead a monthly women’s shooting group called Rosie Pistol.

High school Spanish teacher to firearms instructor? Life is unexpected sometimes!

The fact that I wasn’t always a gun girl is what makes me able to relate to other women who are new to guns and concealed carry.

I understand their struggles because they were also my struggles.

If you want to conceal carry, I want to help you.

If you want to conceal carry, I want to help you.

Filling The Gap

The number of women becoming interested in concealed carry is growing rapidly! I love that! It is awesome that more and more women are equipping themselves with tools to protect themselves and their loved ones.

What makes me sad is knowing that very few women actually carry regularly after getting their license. That is what I want to help with and why I started this blog!

There are usually clear steps on what a person has to do to get the license in their state. People are comfortable following laid out instructions. After you actually get the license, there aren’t clear steps on how to fit concealed carry into your day to day.

This is the gap. I want to fill that gap. I want to equip you with practical, real advice that will give you the confidence you need to effectively conceal carry.

If you DON’T WANT to carry a gun, then I don’t want you to either!

If you WANT to conceal carry but something is holding you back, I want to help you!

I’m so glad you found my site!

Ten years ago I was really intimidated by guns.

If I can do this, you can do this too my friend!

Want to know all the details on how I ended up here?

I share the details of my personal journey to encourage you.

Pew Pew Mom Started with a Dream!

Figuratively I have had a dream to help other women with firearms for a while. That was my motivation to became an instructor in 2013.

In March 2019 I had a literal dream that I had a website that was helping tons of women gain the confidence they needed as concealed carriers.

In the dream the site was called Pew Pew Putie (pronounced like Cutie with a P sound.) My subconscious is kind of clever I guess. The dream played over and over in my head for the next couple of months. Finally on June 27, 2019 I decided that I had to make it happen.

You are what makes the dream worth worth pursuing!

Thank you for being here!

Pew Pew Mom exists to help YOU!

Let me know what your struggles are so I know how I can help!
